Cairns pets still at risk of paralysis ticks

Cairns Vet Clinic has been treating several dogs and cats with tick paralysis every week recently.  It has been a quieter paralysis tick season than normal but there are still plenty around.  Be sure to use some sort of tick preventative and search your pet daily if they visit or live in tick-infested areas.  Remember ticks take 3 days or more to cause illness, so  you need to search your pet for up to a week after possible exposure.
Cairns pets are at greatest risk from paralysis ticks from June to December but we do see cases all year.
